Hi
I filed I-40 on June,1th 2007. My lawyer will file my I-485 & I-765 by July 1st. I'm currently on F1- status , When i can start working? do i get an authorization to work before approval of the I-40?
I'm sorry but does anyone know the difference between EB3 and schedual A? I'm an RN and i was filed under EB3!

I don't think EAD/H1b should matter for the loan application, but all these depends on loan agent and bank policy. I took loan from Bankofamerica without any problem.
PMI Vs 20% down payment, this is tough decision. If you want to play safe game till you get GC 5% down paymnet is better. In case if you have enough savings and planning to stay in that house for long time not it's not a wise decision to pay PMI.

Robbers charging your credit card is no big deal either. There are federal laws protecting us on incorrect credit card charges. Would you want to risk your life for just $50?
Year ago, my credit card was used by someone in Vegas and they charged about $2000.....I didn't loose my card and I was no where near Vegas during that time. My bank didn't charge me even a penny after going thru the identity theft complaint process which involved sending couple of mails with some notarized stuff and few phone calls.
Last month, my wife's handbag (had card in it) was pick-pocketed in a small town in India and they tried to use the card. We were on vacation and immediately called the bank and canceled the card.
Point is, whether it is India or US or anywhere, if a thief gets hold of your card, they would try to use it. For some, there is nothing like a free lunch!
Another example my ex-boss in US had. There was a homeless person in his area and he used to see him almost every day. One day he decided to do something, talked to him and asked him to sign-up with his church rehab group, get him a job etc....My ex-boss was serious but the homeless promptly rejected all the offers and instead he just wanted to remain as homeless only. He didn't even want to try....

I got my DL in Colorado just after Sept 11.....and it was for 10 years...luckily. Yes, you are correct Colorado has been traditionally super conservative, but with people from different states moving in..that is changing, only a shade though.

This is misleading in extreme. High-skilled workers are in the U.S. on Legal visas that are sponsored by their employers. These visas are issued to limited numbers of foreigners in areas where no American workers have been found. These legal workers have to go through grueling government �labor certifications� and extreme waits and red tape just to perform their work, which usually includes U.S. patents and successful start-ups. I urge you to make a correction or an errata to this article which is probably an honest mistake, but which is very unfair, misleading and just plain untrue. Thank you once more.

I read a few months ago that to avoid wastage of visa numbers USCIS is going to introduce one more date called a "Qualifying date" which would essentially mean that even though your PD is not current, you may apply for 485 because USCIS has the resources to process your application.
The last I heard they were going to introduce something after Sept/Oct this year. has anyone else read of any other updates anywhere?
Note: this date is not going to get you EAD/AP or green card. This is only meant for USCIS to maintain their workload efficiently. It may benefit people who are single and who have already applied for 485 by quelling their fears of their application getting approved before they can add their spouse.

ISU - Iowa State University; Not from India. Yes, $15K for a total of 30 credits. Aprx 3 credits per subject => total 10 subjects. One of them must be a project, so total of 9 subjects ( with 3 credits each).

With all due respect, the probelem I have with volunteers is that I don't think amtures can pull a job this big, you've got to have profesionals, somethng like a compain maneger.
I admire the courage of your guys, and think the goal is fantastic. But the way it goes, I don't see how it can be achieved.
I've learned a great deal about immigration from the forum here. I very much appreciate it. I try to give back by answering questions others may have. I think IV has been doing a great job serving as that capacity.
But you guys want do something bigger. Well, you have faith in it, I don't, at least not now, neither many others. Maybe that is why you are still asking for money and volunteers.
we have professional lobbyists. and they cost the erath.
and that is why we need contributions. as long people "don't believe" we don't succeed. it's up to you, it's your issue as much as mine. professionals cost a lot of money, and this thread is quibbling over 20 and 50 bucks. anyway who is the knight on the white horse coming to rescue us? it's just us buddy, and we have to do our best. i like your analytical thinking. we need you to join in and help. any number of volunteers is less imho...

Maybe for the educated few (in the crowd of thousands with different eligibilities). And imagine a few millions with no or dubious papers getting on the line in next few years. Just because one can apply for PR with Canada and Australia easily, it cannot be assumed that the process would be similar for US. I do not know about Australia, but comparted to Canada, I am pretty sure there would be more people wanting to come to US and the restrictions are going to be more. Three things are inescapable here for anything to do with the feds: tax, lawyers and lawyers. Any immigration reform in which the lion's share does not go to the lawyers will not reach even the banks of Potomac.

It was lawsuit filed by AILA, efforts by IV and other groups that reversed the decision. Gandhigiri in this country has very little value. This country works on laws/court system. We need to get laws to help us and we need support groups like IV to make that happen. Or else we can pray to God to shower some green.

I think we should start a Employer Hall of shame and nominate employers who are either cheating the employees or the Immigration system.
This will help future employees and the immigration community as whole.

Well, I like you because you are just a straight shooter. If you are such a straight shooter then let me do some straight talk, so just catch this.
Your American mid-size company or Desi small size or super size company will get $180/hr but you will not get even $50/hr from the same client even when you go direct. So no matter how "highly-skilled" you think you are, your non-compete argument is not good enough for you not to be able directly market yourself, because there are gazillion other companies using BI, Cognos, BO, Informatica, Datastage and every similar crap. You can impress a few people by naming some technologies that maybe hot but they don't mean a &hit if you market them yourself. Here is why. A lot of people blame the lack of GC as a reason to be exploited. That is part of the problem. The other part of the problem is that most hiring managers in large companies get commission from these small, mid-size or large American, Desi or European consulting companies. That's why in most cases they always hire through one of these companies. They will not hire directly because the manager thinks you to be a stingy desi, and if he hires you directly the hiring manager will not see a dime, so why will he hire you directly? Do you realize how easy this ETL, Informatica bull &hit is but somehow you seem to think that its worth $180/hr. And you seem to think that your problem is that other than you, everybody else around you is faking resumes. If you are so smart answer this, how will you avoid using two bitmap index on two columns in two tables when used in the same query? And why would you want to avoid using both the bitmap indexes? Na Na, now don't go to Asktom.com to look for an answer, you are highly skilled, you deserve $180/hr for knowing Congnos and Informatica, shouldn't you be knowing atleast this.
Sorry, did not mean to put you on the spot, just trying to highlight that the problem in this entire debate is, every player in the picture stands up for his/her position always trying to project self-righteous image highlighting the part of the movie in which he or she is the hero and all others are villains. Yes GC/EAD gives to room to look around / negotiate the higher rate , to sustain and move up will require a lot more than that.
Look at the aveage compansation for any area.
Assess your expertise ( not to compare with you the guy sitting next to you)
Try to move up in the ladder
Keep updating your tech skill
Diversify to more ( but related ) skill.
Add niche like PMP / Six Sigma.
Top of all , little bit of Luck , to be right place at the right time .

Your American mid-size company or Desi small size or super size company will get $180/hr but you will not get even $50/hr from the same client even when you go direct. So no matter how "highly-skilled" you think you are, your non-compete argument is not good enough for you not to be able directly market yourself, because there are gazillion other companies using BI, Cognos, BO, Informatica, Datastage and every similar crap. You can impress a few people by naming some technologies that maybe hot but they don't mean a &hit if you market them yourself. Here is why. A lot of people blame the lack of GC as a reason to be exploited. That is part of the problem. The other part of the problem is that most hiring managers in large companies get commission from these small, mid-size or large American, Desi or European consulting companies. That's why in most cases they always hire through one of these companies. They will not hire directly because the manager thinks you to be a stingy desi, and if he hires you directly the hiring manager will not see a dime, so why will he hire you directly? 500000 legal immigrants, even if u assume 4 per family , ONLY 125000 houses can be sold...(even if 50% qualify for a loan.. thats just 62500 houses sold.. last i read..there were millions of homes for sale)
if the average cost of the house is 250000, thats additional 31.25 Billion $ in credit borrowing... where is the money?
I agree with you that this is not big enough to stop the entire crisis. But look at the cities where there are lot of immigrants. I can give you one example where it could make huge impact.
Seattle (King County) home of Microsoft has a housing inventory of 8600 single family homes around 1200 condos. It takes 10 months to clear up the inventory.
Microsoft applied around 2K new H1B last year. So my guess is it might have applied around 8k in last 4 years. Lets assume 60% of those didn't GC's. So around 5k people waiting in the line. Lets say out of which 4K didn't buy a house and are willing to buy a house. So 4K new buyers in a market which has 10K units. If every one buys house in next few months then the months of supply will become 6.
There lot of other companies located in this area which also apply for H1Bs.
So the point is immigrants can save or make big enough impact some housing markets.
Revival of housing market revives the economy. May be we should identify those markets and talk to those senators.

Nobody here even comes close in identifying which are the eligibility criteria. Everybody hopes for one or the other.
Meanwhile one thing is for sure:
Every application filed after July 2nd, is filed AFTER they closed the doors oficially! How are we in the same class as the people from July 2nd ??? Just because we prepared for filing ??? Isn't that a bit weak in the eyes of the law ?
